We have conceived this project as a container for unraveling and enlightening our practices through an explicit investigation of our relationships to the performing body and scenic elements (objects and scenography). We look to discover new pathways for collaborative performance creation by approaching choreography as design and design as choreography; dissolving hierarchy and silohing of disciplinary roles.

Project brief
In the ideation of an immersive performance installation, we realized the potential of sound as a medium to sculpt the body, time and space. This thread of curiosity led us to experiment with binaural mic and silent disco headphone technology. As planned, we also focused on technologies that stimulate sight such as gimbal, live camera projection, live sketching on a projected image, and lights.

to conclude
Creating rituals for our work in the studio and moving beyond a rigid production schedule allows us to deeply collaborate. We ask ourselves: What elements already exist in the space? What inspires movement, choreography, and design? What brings about a sense of emergence for us and the audience? As we engage with materials and let our bodies guide us, what if we avoid labeling these changes? Instead, we make room for them. After our dedicated time in the residency, Pam and I have a many directions to go. One path is to establish a consistent studio routine. Another is to use our insights to design a unique space for the audience to explore. Ultimately, it might be about making both.
